Description: Lake Erie Maps & Prints Ebay Store! An Authentic Antique Map: Not a Modern Reproduction! ***Free US Domestic Shipping on Purchases of 5 or More Maps and Prints***International rates apply elsewhere, we are glad to combine items to save shipping costs Description: It is an authentic antique map approximately 100 years old from W. & A.K. Johnston's Atlas of the World, circa 1921, Dexter Weatherproofing edition. The atlas didn't have a copyright, but did include a published letter from the Shackleton-Rowett Epedition endorsing Dexter Weatherproof clothing, which it used on its Antarctic Expeditions, that is dated 1921, which is the typical date attributed to similar Dexter atlases. The atlas was a business edition published specifically for the British Dexter Weatherproofing company. A facsimile copy of the title page and letter from the Atlas is included for documentation. The brothers, William and Alexander Keith Johnston were very prolific cartographers of the period, known for their accuracy and fine detail. It is being sold as a single sheet that is not mounted nor framed as seen in the main pic. Margin Text: "The Dexter is a warrant of protection against storm" and "As British as the Weather --- But Reliable" Note: The Shackleton Letter was published in the atlas as an endorsement for Dexter Waterproofing clothing. We have simply made a digital copy and will send a paper copy of the letter along with a paper copy of the atlas title page for documentation purposes. It is interesting that the letter is dated Sept 17, 2021 prior to Shackleton's final Antarctic expedition on which he would die within 4 months enroute on Jan. 5, 1922 off the coast of South Georgia. Size: The entire page measures 9 1/2 by 12 inches (24x32cm) with the map area slightly smaller as seen, nice margin all around for framing. Condition: It is in Good or better condition with a couple of minor smudges around the margins, nothing very distracting, as seen in the pic. Otherwise, the page is strong with no tears and the color is still very bright. There is another map on the reverse. The pics are of the actual map.
