Description: This card was issued by D.B. HORN of Albany New York, as an advertising give away to promote their Candies, Ice Cream Cigars and Tobacco. I believe that they were a General Store as well as having a Soda Bar as they mention their Sodas and Sundays as well. The bottom of the back of the card also mention that the “Movie Stars on the Reverse Side Seen at Colonial Theatre” which I imagine was the local movie house. This is an early example of cross marking . I have not found this series recorded in any guide that I am aware of (American Card Catalogue, Non-Sports Bible ect.). The front of each card feature a black and white photographic image of a prominent movie star at the time. Although there is no known exact date of issue it is thought to have been in the 1910’s to 1920’s era when most of the actors featured in the series were in prominence. The card measures 2 inches by 3 3/8 inches approximately. This Card features Clara Williams: Here is some information I found about them on the internet: Clara Williams (May 3, 1888 – May 8, 1928) was an American silent film actress. Along with Louise Glaum and Dorothy Dalton, she was one of the principal leading ladies at Inceville, one of the first motion picture studios to make feature films in Los Angeles. Williams appeared in more than one hundred films between 1910 and 1918, including starring roles in The Italian and William S. Hart's western, Hell's Hinges, both of which are included in the National Film Registry. When she married director Reginald Barker at age 31, she retired from acting. The card does have some corner and edge wear, but it is free from major creases. I think it displays nicely. I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself. I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days (spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Cigarettes , Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians , Baseball , Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds, Circus themes and many more.
