He was for a short time student of the Berlin educator Adolf Schulze, however, made largely self-taught from the singer. He devoted himself exclusively to concert singing and was soon regarded as one of the greatest song interpreters of his generation. His recitals brought him first since 1895 in Berlin as in the other German centers of music, then throughout Europe, a great success. 1906-10 was heard annually in Vienna; he joined as a Lieder singer in Holland (et al 1905 in Scheveningen) as in the Scandinavian countries. He undertook in 1911-13 several North American tours in which he brought his song repertoire to lecture. His interpretation of ballads by Carl Loewe was considered classic, where he "dramatically" (ie in representational form) tried to make these ballads. Incidentally, its programs contained the German art song from all periods of music history (he was also "historically constructed" recitals). He was also active as a respected vocal coach and led for several years a vocal class at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. One of his students was the famous baritone Joseph Black, another Max Begemann. The voice of the great Lieder singer is survived by a number of fine recordings; the oldest came out on G & T and HMV, then followed American Columbia-plates and Edison Amberola cylinder. Also represented on the stamps Odeon, Pathé and anchor. [Supplement] Heinemann, Alexander; during his US tours he appeared in two Sunday night concerts at the Metropolitan Opera New York. He was also a highly valued oratorio soloist (among others in "Samson" and "Israel in Egypt" by Handel, "Creation" by Joseph Haydn). If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
