1910's Joseph Ballard Athlete Card E229 National Licorice Champion Runner

Description: This rare and colorful card is one in a series of 25 cards issued by the NATIONAL LICORICE Company of Brooklyn New York entitled “ CHAMPION ATHLETE SERIES ” This series is designated as E229 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue. I have not been able to find a date of their issue in any reference guide I have, but I believe they were issued in the 1910’s or earlier. Each card features a colorful portrait of a Champion Athlete. The Back of the card list the other athletes featured in the series. This card features Joseph Ballard a Champion Runner and measures 1 7/8 inches by 2 1/2 approximately. The card does have some creasing and various wear, and piece of a corner missing. I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the condition for yourself.
