Description: Photo from the Album of Sir James Angus Gillan CMG KBE, Olympic rower and colonial service officer covering the years 1908 to 1917. Angus Gillan was a Gold Medallist in both the 1908 & 1912 Olympics. Rowed for Oxford & won the Oxbridge boat race. A Member of the Leander rowing Club. Served in Sudan for 30 years, eventually becoming the Civil Secretary in 1934 & awarded the Order of the Nile in 1935. He eventually went on to organise the 1948 Olympics. He also rowed for his college and the Magdalen College Coxless four won the Stewards' Challenge Cup and the Visitors' Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta in 1907 and 1908.Please also Check our eBay store for over 60,000 collectable items
