The man behind the gun John Philip Sousa (composer) Sousa's Band (Musical group) 10/21/1908 Camden, New Jersey 6 Master Victor 16395===============FIRST PUBLISHED TAKE 2Southern roses waltz - Rosen aus dem Süden; arranged (Uniform title) Johann Strauss (composer) Arthur Pryor's Band (Musical group) 9/19/1907 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [unconfirmed] 2 Master Victor 5276PLEASE SEE ABOVE FOR CONDITION March, “The Man Behind the Gun" (1899) In telling a reporter how this march was inspired, Sousa also gave his explanation of why his marches have been more successful than those of the master composers: A composition in march tempo must have the military instinct, and that is one reason why so few of the great composers have written successful marches. They lived in an atmosphere of peace. The roll of musketry had no meaning for them, so that quality is entirely absent from their work. The Spanish War was an inspiration to me. “The Man Behind the Gun” was a musical echo of it. The march first appeared in the operetta Chris and the Wonderful Lamp (1899). If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel. Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment. Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless you request another service.
