Description: Here's one of several stereo cards taken on the front porch of Rosemount, New York judge Alton Brooks Parker's home at Esopus, New York. He and Henry Davis posed for photographers after they became the 1904 democratic presidential nominees. You know that you are wealthy and live in a fancy house when you can call your porch a "piazza." (See our Parker stereo card item 304394232503). Back when this was taken, most nominees did not attend the party's National Conventions. So, after they got picked, notification ceremonies were held for the presidential and veep candidates in the towns where they lived. And then the men had to get together and meet (often for the first time) to plan their election campaign. The second banana always went to the top-of-the-ticket's home, and that's what's happening in this image. Davis was one of the oldest men ever nominated for vice-president, and it was merely because he was loaded with money that the democrat party thought he should share with it. But he really didn't give much to help their election - in time or money. Parker had the unenviable task of running against one of the most popular individuals ever to hold that presidential office: Theodore Roosevelt, and he got his clock cleaned. There are several different poses on stereo cards released for that 1904 election showing Parker around this homestead. Perhaps you need this jugate view. Parker's actual house where this was taken just sold a couple years ago for a cool 2.9 million bucks. But that did include some riverfront acreage. Just search for 14 Lamont Landing in Esopus and it will come up. This is in nice condition but please enlarge our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. We have priced this rare view according to its condition since it has a light scratch on the right image. Remember, folks, this stuff's called ephemera because it was made to be used and then thrown away. So we're just happy to have things like this survive history in any condition so we can add it to our collections. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases. Shipping on this will be $6.50 carefully packed with tracking. 5620
