Translated from the German by Margaret R. Thomson and edited by J. Arthur Thomson. An extensive account of zoologist Alfred Edmund Brehm's various travels, which provides details on the flora, fauna, and geography of many lands, including Lapland, Siberia, Nubia, and Danube. Embellished from original drawings with a frontispiece and numerous plates, both full page and in text. Collated, complete. CONDITION In the original publisher's cloth binding with gilt stamps to the front board and spine. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. The board are only slightly soiled. Inscribed to the half title page, dated 1900. Internally, the hinges are slightly tender to the boards, otherwise firmly bound. With a faint minor spotting to the first and last few leaves; otherwise, the pages are very clean throughout with only a hint of age toning, as usual. Embellished from original drawings with a frontispiece and numerous plates, both in text and full page. Collated, complete.
