Ink inscription to the front free end paper. Illustrated with fifty-three plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated, complete. Sir George Scott Robertson was the first Victorian to travel into Kafiristan, and consequently this work, which recounts his experiences, was the first book to bring the culture of the Kafirs to a Western audience. It dispelled many popular beliefs concerning the customs and lineage of the Kafirs. Though Robertson's style and perspective is now somewhat outdated, this volume is still valuable as one of the few descriptions of the Kafirs' way of life prior to their mass conversion by Amir Abdur Rahman Khan of Afghanistan.
