The frontispiece is a photo of the author in front of his cabin. The protective tissue is present, in good condition.The cover has good retention of the gilt and black design. The cover does show some wear, especially at the head and tail of the spine and the corners, as shown. The binding is excellent. The inner hinges are somewhat cracked but holding well. There is writing on the first free page showing this was given as a gift in 1898. There is a Helen Kate Furness Free Library plate on the inner front cover, the Helen Kate Furness free library embossed seal on the title page and the rear has a library card envelope showing the book was last check out July 15, 1938. The reading pages are very good vintage condition. There is no internal writing.
