Description: This is an excellent condition, handsome copy of "PALESTINE ~ Those Holy Fields" Illustrated by Pen and Pencil by Rev. Samuel Manning. 1892; The Religious Tract Society; London. The book is beautifully and profusely illustrated with in-text and full-page drawings throughout. Nicely bound with gilt lettering and illustrations on the front cover and spine, gilt page edges on all sides of the text block, and decorative end papers. There is a general Index, an "Index to Scripture References," and eight pages of publisher advertisements for "Illustrated Books of Travel" at the back. From the Preface: "The journey of which a brief account is given in the following pages was undertaken in the early part of 1873. The object of the writer was to compare the Land and the Book, and by an examination of the topography of Palestine to illustrate the histories of Scripture. The main design of the present volume has been to trace these coincidences, and thus to elucidate and confirm the Biblical narrative."
