1892 Art Lithograph by Gustav Dore, Artist, "Satan Wounded" from Paradise Lost

Description: This picture is a wood engraving/typo gravure illustration that was originally found in a volume of the same called Character Sketches of Romance, Fiction and the Drama. It is called "Satan Wounded." by Gustave Dore. The story behind this lithograph came from Milton's "Paradise Lost." This copy was founded by the Rev. E. Cobham Brewer, L.L.D edited by Marion Harland, Volume IV. This set was published by Selmar Hess, in New York in 1892. The quality of these prints are excellent , as it follows many types of wood engravings which had been tried in earlier and later years. A few of the prints in these books were done in color as the quality of these chromolithographs and lithographs reproduced in the printing of these rare and expensive volumes is uniquely beautiful. Each print comes with a tissue insert which will go with the print explaining the poem, story or play that initially inspired each work itself. As Shakespeare is part of these prints, so are many famous poets and authors as each print is suitably found to be a work in itself. These books are large leather-bound volumes which prints are measured at approximately 8.5" by 11.5". Some of these printings have been cut down in size due to natural tears that occur at the removal of the pictures from the string tied bindings that they are found in today. Each print will have the exact measurements of the picture and then the page that surrounds it. The pictures themselves vary in size. Please feel free to email questions.
