Description: Lake Erie Maps & Prints An Authentic Antique Map: Not a Modern Reproduction! ***Free Priority Shipping*** Description: It is an original antique map approximately 130 years old with original hand coloring with a varnished finish typical of these old rollup maps. It is on a wooden spindle and rolls up nicely. It has a date of 1891 in bold near the bottom of the map and it also has a copyright date of 1879 in small print that states "Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1879 by G.W. & B.C. Colton in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington." It is a rare map that had a limited production and few of these have survived due to the general fragility typical of larger varnished wall maps. Size: The entire map is approximately 20x25 inches (50x65cm). The bottom wooden spindle measures 29 inches in length. Condition: It is in Good or better condition, especially for a rollup map, which are often very degraded. However, this one is actually very well preserved with some minor cracking as typical, nothing very distracting. The varnish has aged and darkened over time with a few light areas where the varnish has worn thin. The left edge of the border has faded some and there are were few very minor spots of flaking which we have resecured with archival materials. Although the map is in well preserved, these old varnished wall maps are always somewhat fragile and should be handled with care, otherwise it has a rich classic antique quality with the original hooks at the top ready for hanging. The color in the pics is very close to the actual appearance, so take a good look at all the pics for more on condition. The pics are of the actual map.
