This was simply added to the ebay image to keep others from copying without permission. Over the next few weeks, I will be listing a large collection of original glass negatives. These negatives are all from a local Florida estate, and fresh to the market. I believe many, if not all, are unpublished views, and many of the subjects and locations are identified. Although the photographer is unidentified, he or she was quite talented, and certainly worthy of further research. ************************************** *** One of several views I am listing tonight, all taken in the 1890's of the historic White Hall at BRISTOL COLLEGE. Notation on original paper sleeve identifies this image as: OLD CHINA COLLEGE FROM NORTH (I assume this to be a reference to the old CHINA RETREAT located here.) Bristol College was an Episcopal manual labor college located near Bristol, Pennsylvania. It was established 1833. The White Hall of the college was built by Alexander Jackson Davis in Greek Revival style. Bristol College was used as a hospital during the American Civil War, and from 1868 through the 1880s as an orphanage for the children of colored soldiers. ************************************** The first view shown in this auction is of the negative held over a light box. The image has been inverted, to show a negative of the negative (resulting in a positive image, as it would have been printed by the photographer.) Second view shows the actual slide held over a light box, with no adjustments. Third image is of the original paper sleeve. Glass negative measures approximately 4 3/8" by 3 3/8" and is sold just as found, uncleaned, with no hairlines, cracks, or repairs. Image is crisp and clear, with excellent contrast and focus, so it could be successfully printed and enlarged, if desired.
