Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . . 1887-1890 Old Judge tobacco card (N172) [#2] - Michael "King" & "10,000" Kelly ~ Boston Red Stockings (Braves) "One of the best 19th century players, KING KELLY led the National League in batting several times. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1945... was sold from Chicago in early 1887 for the then unheard of figure of $10,000." REPRINT ~ Near-Mint "N172" (actually, simply "172") - the "N" (for 19th century) being added in later years - is the designation Jefferson Burdick in his American Card Catalog decades ago gave Goodwin & Company's Old Judge and Gypsy Queen cards of 1887-1890. Original cards from this set are now more than 125 years old and an individual card of the most common player will cost hundreds of dollars in top condition. This card is reproduced in close-to-the- original 1-7/16" by 2-1/2" size (being 1/1/2" by 2-1/2") and features a black and white posed photograph on thin cardboard stock. The back has a snappy little biography (frequently with reference to the Old Judge issue) below the player's name and card number and closes with mention of that fact that the card is a REPRINT. Here is an opportunity to acquire a reprint of a very scarce card at a affordable price. Shipping OPTIONS are available - YOUR CHOICE of either eBay standard envelope service (ESE) which is cheaper with slower delivery or USPS Ground Advantage (more costly for single cards but much faster delivery). We also offer UNLIMITED singles (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) shipped via Ground Advantage for the one card rate. Both services include insurance but USPS Ground Advantage is considerably quicker, with fewer limitations. Condition: Near-Mint Collecting Tip: for those seeking detailed information regarding Old Judge cards - and especially N172's, we recommend (and used to sell) The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Co. ~ 1886-1890, the encyclopedic 459-page hardbound book. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low. Our primary objective is to sell cards and other things of interest to baseball hobbyists - not make money by overcharging on shipping. If you ever believe you are being overcharged on shipping, please email us and we will double-check the facts of the matter. Thank you! U.S. residents: We combine multiple items purchased so you pay only the shipping on the heaviest item - all other items ship free of charge. (An exception would be if an item must be sent via media/book rate.) All Other Countries: Email us first. Many listings indicate shipment to U.S. or U.S. & Canada only, but we actually ship worldwide. To receive your combined shipping, please wait for us to send you a combined invoice. The eBay checkout system usually displays an incorrect shipping charge. (It is normally too high.) Please do not pay for each item separately; if you pay separately, there is no shipping discount. We pack your order carefully - sandwiching cards between cardboard and utilizing boxes, bubble wrap, etc., as necessary - to ensure your items arrive in the condition you expect. Items are shipped the next business day. We ship 5 - usually 6 - days each week. Payment should be made within 7 days after invoice has been received. p1960 ~ The Baseball Hobbyist and Gram invite you to visit their eBay Store ~
