Description: Up for sale is a 2-page handwritten summary of land sales or conveyances that took place in Cape Porpoise Maine in the late 1800's. This document isn't so much a deed as it is acknowledging the conveyance of land ownership from James and Mary Leach to John Tanner in the 1870's and 1880's. Along with several Cape Porpoise deeds, this document was found in a trunk in the attic of a house on Ward Road, in Cape Porpoise, Maine 30+ years ago. The document is very detailed in terms of specific measurements of the properties, and starts off describing a piece of land sold by Mr. and Mrs. Leach to John Tanner November 19, 1872 that abutted the Huff road. Another piece of land along the Huff road is described next, and also abutted property owned by Joseph Wagner, and conveyed in 1870. On the following page there is a notation at the top that "Dr. Adams thinks I better give a memo of the following deed to John Tanner." The next paragraph describes some land conveyed from Mary Leach to John Tanner in 1874 that ran along David Wagner's property. Lastly, there appears an agreement between Leach and Tanner for Tanner to build and maintain a fence between their properties and signed off December 9, 1886. This document is in generally in good condition, but has been folded, and has normal surface soiling. It measures about 8 1/2 x 14". Please email with questions before buying this document. Please see our other Cape Porpoise deed in our eBay store, Paper Emporium, where you will also find hundreds of vintage Maine photos, maps and charts, cigar labels, and other paper collectibles.
