Wear and chipping to all boards. Textblock of volume I is detached from boards and spine (boards and spine are still attached to each other). Front boards of volumes II and V are detached from binding. Marbling to boards, fore edges, and endpapers. All spines show chipping and cracking and only one title compartment is still legible (volume III). Spine of volume II is detached from binding but still attached to rear board. Front board and spine of volume V are detached from textblock. Tips are bumped with exposed boards. Edges are scuffed. Endpapers have become loose in some volumes. Frontispiece opposite title pages of volumes I-IV. No known marginalia. Toning, age-staining, and ink-staining throughout textblocks. Good candidate for restoration. Daniel Webster (January 18, 1782 - October 24, 1852) was an American lawyer and statesman who represented New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the U.S. Congress and served as the 14th and 19th U.S. Secretary of State under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. Webster was one of the most prominent American lawyers of the 19th century, arguing over 200 cases before the United States Supreme Court in his career. During his life, Webster had been a member of the Federalist Party, the National Republican Party, and the Whig Party.
