Description: Circa 1881; Henry T. Coates & Co., Publisher; 968 pages. This is such a beautiful book. Pages appear mostly clean, some discoloration; cover and binding have usual expected age-related wear. Cover will require a bookbinder to secure the book together. Also slight wear to corners and edges of spine. It's unclear to me why it's listed as "Illustrated" when there's only one illustration in the whole book. A STRIKING AND BEAUTIFUL 19TH CENTURY EDITION OF SHAKESPEARES POETICAL WORKS INCLUDES 968 PAGES IN ONE MASSIVE COMPILATION OF HIS WORKS THAT IS NOW 130+ YEARS OLD HIGHLY DETAILED AND ORNATE COVER AND SPINE WITH SILVER GILT STILL FULL OF LUSTER This collection brings together all the poetical works of William Shakespeare. There are some books that are just irreplaceable and this is certainly one of them!! All pages and artwork are present with striking gilt and a heavily tooled spine. I would snag this book before it's gone it is an absolute gem of a find. Many people believe William Shakespeare is the best British writer of all time and for good reason! A museum-grade book, and should be cared for as such. Although this book lacks a definite print date "As none of this particular edition was did" historical research shows the creation of this one was sometime in the 1880s. These cover designs and bindings were very prevalent in this era which also adds to the circa of the 1880s as its original creation time. Overall condition is acceptable with the normal wear one would expect from an edition printed over 130 years ago. William Shakespeare (1564 1616) was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the worlds pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called Englands national poet, and the Bard of Avon. His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
