Description: These are an extremely rare and original 1880's printing of Adolph Engel's Wahrsagekarten (Lenormand) Cards. Printed in Berlin, Germany on pasteboard cardstock using chromolithography. Cards measure approximately 2.25" x 3.5". I have not found this exact printing except for the possibility of one that sold for over $700 in January 2023 right here on eBay. Unfortunately, that listing has been erased from the internet akin to most of this deck's history, so it's condition and verification of it being the same deck aren't available. If my research is correct, then only 1100 of these decks were made and I do believe these are the very first print of Engel's Wahrsagekarten. If the art looks familiar, it may be because the (much larger known) U.S. Games' "Gypsy Witch Fortune Telling Cards" borrowed a lot of this deck's artwork. However, Engel actually took the art from Madame Lenormand's deck found with her when she died in 1843. He claims he was the first one to print them. They are in immaculate condition for their age. The casket card is sadly missing. The flip top box still has its lid, but is detached. The guidebook still has all of its pages and is in great condition as well. I have now posted it in its entirety in the photos. These are for any collector of antique card sets. More pictures can be sent to serious inquiries. Shipping will include insurance and signature confirmation.
