The covers are slightly soiled and creased with a tiny chip to the top front corner and to the tail of the spine. There is a vertical crease down the center of the covers and contents from having been folded. 24 pages. There are some minor creases. Good. The "Platform of the National Liberal League, Adopted at Rochester, NY, Oct. 26, 1877" authored by Robert C. Spencer is printed on the verso of the front cover. The platform enumerates 3 important rights, calling for "Total Separation of Church and State, to be guaranteed by amendment of the United States Constitution...." "National Protection for National Citizens, in their equal civil, political, and religious rights...." and "Universal Education the Basis of Universal Suffrage in this Secular Republic: to be guaranteed by amendment of the United States Constitution...." In his preface, Pastor G.E. Gordon writes "This address was prepared in the spirit of a resolution passed by a Conference of Independent Religious Societies held at Janesville, in December, 1877" and asserts that "The address is published by the Milwaukee Liberal League with the consent of the author." The National Liberal League of the United States, founded in 1876, was one of the first national organizations to advocate for the separation of church and state and freedom of religion. Robert G.
