George Bacon Wood was an American physician and professor from Pennsylvania. He served as a physician to the Pennsylvania Hospital for twenty four years, and was president of both the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the American Philosophical Society. Franklin Bache was an American physician, chemist, writer, and great-grandson of Benjamin Franklin. He was the first American to conduct research on the use of acupuncture to reduce pain.
