Key date inexplicably priced as a common date in proof, even though other key date proofs can sell for nearly as much as the business strikes, such as 1877 cents and 1844 dimes. Mintage 40,000 plus 600 proofs, some proofs melted as per Breen Encyl, p 355. Many proofs tallied in the population reports are resubmissions or crossovers of the same coins. Closed 3 was changed to Open 3 on many denominations because it looked too much like an 8. There are only Closed 3 No Arrows proof quarters, no Open 3's. Strong claims to PR64. Very few (and light) marks and lines for PR63. Boldly struck. Easily PR67 CAMEO by third-tier slab and raw standards, PR68 DEEP CAMEO after the usual doctoring.
