S. Government at the beginning of the Civil War showing North Landing River along the border of Virginia and North Carolina, published by the US Coast Survey in 1861. Includes Knotts Island and Mackay Island, and shows the location of farm areas, marshes, magnetic variation, soundings in feet, and a tide table. The chart was produced under the supervision of A. D. Bache, Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Survey (and grandson of Benjamin Franklin). Condition: Folding chart in good antique condition, nice impression on sturdy, a couple of wrinkles, mildly age-toned paper, slightly darkened along the folds.
