DATE 1857 ---- Measures right 5-3/4" X 9" 600 pages ----Marbled interior pastedowns and facing end pages; exterior page edges also marbled ---- Typically this edition is bound in brown textured cloth.... yet this one seems to be bound in a smooth leather CONDITION: PAGES: Pages all present, well attached, and untorn. I see no unusual, unexpected stains, but see some typical type discoloration.... some light , random age type spots, or shadowy patches. The worst shows in ebay photos, being the title page... plus the front and last blank pages and their facing blank pages. (only pages with a crease) Pages have areas which look as if they have light discoloration from dampness along the BOTTOM EDGE...likely humidity type discoloration. You can see that in ebay photos. Most pages have only this very light discoloration along bottom....and otherwise spot free. As for handmarkings: 1) the 9 page Introduction has some handwritten cursive notes (made inpencil)... in the margins of pages. I did not wish to try and erase these as buyer may prefer this stay put. However, possibly it can be erased. Also 2) the original owner wrote their name on the front blank page, and again on the last blank page. Pages are of a quality paper.. sturdy, NOT BRITTLE. I show a photo of the exterior of page edges; it is marbled... yet somewhat darkened. BOARDS / EXTERIOR: I believe the boards are covered with a smooth leather, which has typical rubs, scratches, bumps on edge, peels, and some spots, etc , all due to aging and handling. Looks like some old patches of tape were placed at inside top corners of boards, near hinge of spine (perhaps to secure spine). But the tape no longer reaches over the spine cover. Main threat is spine cover has cracks along the hinge line.... so there may be a pop loose someday. I posted lots of photos of the exterior up close to help with your assessment. BINDING: Pages are all holding together firm. Boards and spine holding, but wiggly, due to cracking along spine edge and hinge lines.
