Description: France, 1856 medal, 76mm 190grs approx, in copper, by Bovy, in very fine condition as scanned, rim nicks, edge marked "cuivre" with hand* (Paris mint). The Treaty of Paris of 1856 settled the Crimean War between the Russian Empire and an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, the British Empire, the Second French Empire and the Kingdom of Sardinia. The treaty, signed on 30 March 1856 at the Congress of Paris, made the Black Sea neutral territory, closed it to all warships and prohibited fortifications and the presence of armaments on its shores. The treaty marked a severe setback to Russian influence in the region. Conditions for the return of Sevastopol and other towns and cities in the south of Crimea to Russia were clear, as it could not establish any naval or military arsenal on the coast of the Black Sea Alexandre Florian Joseph, Count Colonna-Walewski (Polish: Aleksander Florian Józef Colonna-Walewski; 4 May 1810 – 27 September 1868), was a Polish and French politician and diplomat. Walewski was widely rumoured to be the (unacknowledged) illegitimate son of Napoleon I by his mistress, Countess Marie Walewska, although her husband (Athanasius, Count Walewski) legally acknowledged him as his own son. In 2013, published scholarship comparing DNA haplotype evidence taken from Emperor Napoleon, from his brother King Jérôme Bonaparte's descendant Charles, Prince Napoléon and from Colonna-Walewski's descendant indicated Alexandre's membership in the genetic male-line of the imperial House of Bonaparte ### FAST EZ & HASSLE FREE TRANSACTIONS FROM PARIS TO TEXAS OR ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD ### Check out our other items Mint Marks used at the PARIS MINT: Plain Edge ==> All medals before March 30th 1832 have plain edges and before 1841 for bronze or copper.
