Description: You are bidding on a rare antique hardcover book titled "Wolfert's Roost And Other Papers, Now First Collected", by Washington Irving. This is the First U.S. Edition published 1855 by G.P. Putnam & Co., New York. It has the regular title page along with the decorative title page and the "Contented Man" illustrated page. Note that copyright date is 1854, due to being issued earlier in England. The last work issued during the author's lifetime (other than his five volume biography of George Washington), it contains the titular story, which is a Dutch Knickerbocker-rich history of the land upon which Irving built his home, Sunnyside, as well as other stories and observations, many of which are related to his travels. Book shows some wear and tear but remains in good condition. Inside front cover has two bookplates from previous owner and a little slip of paper about the book. A rare book that would make a nice addition to a collection. Great gift idea! (Inventory: 593) Track Page Views With Auctiva's FREE Counter
