Description: 1855 DATED HAND COLORED DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA WASHINGTON DC MAP BY J. H. COLTON & CO - MATTED & FRAMED UNDER GLASS - ACTUAL PUBLISHERS G. W. & C. B. COLTON Antique Map entitled: "Georgetown & The City of Washington - The Capital of the United States" and dated 1855 - J. H. Colton & Co. Map page No. 24 of Georgetown and Washington. Wood frame shows some wear and nicks on edge paint. There is NO water damage or staining anywhere on the map and NO rippling to printed paper ANYWHERE. Other examples of this work are usually found torn, with edge roughness. wrinkled, with foxing or water stained. THE EXAMPLE ON OFFER IS PERFECT AND VOID OF ANY ABERRATIONS OR DAMAGE. Map showing to inner edges of matte is 15" x 13" in size. Frame measures approx 20 X 17". There are three cartouches: including the JUST THEN BUILT Smithsonian, the OLD Washington Monument and The Capitol. Nicely hand colored tinted in red and blue. Along the bottom right it reads: "Entered according to the act of Congress in the year of 1855 by J.H. Colton & Co. in the Clerk's Office of the Dist. of the Court of the U.S. for the So. Dist. of New York." Wear is consistent with age and use. Please see all photos as they are part of the description. Nicely hand colored in perfect condition.
