Description: The Floral Keepsake, with Thirty Engravings Elegantly Colored from Nature Edited by John Keese, Published by Leavitt & Allen, New York, 1854, 111 pp, illustrated with 30 botanical plates, illustrated title and frontis, tan cartonnage ornate cloth binding, 10.5 x 8.5”, 8vo. In fair condition. Moderate wear to extremities with scuffing to corners and edges. Pigments used in ornamentation are slightly faded, rubbed. Gilt lightly tarnished and dulled from time. Joints split poorly with binding exposed. Spine abraded and nearly perished. End papers fresh and clean. Clean frontis and title, remain bright and vibrant. Tissue guards intact. Some plates have been crudely hand stenciled. Rosa Rubiginosa and Lilac plates are loose from binding. Binding shaken and loosening. Some occasional foxing throughout. Please see photos. A gorgeous and charming work of literature indicative of the Victorian era. A sentimental text is included with each plate along with a dictionary of flower language. RAREA1854DMOW
