Description: Offered here is a fabulous "Mountain Man or Trapper's" beaded belt that dates from the 1850's era. The base belt is leather, backed with blue/white checkered cotton cloth, then beadwork applied to the outer side as can be seen in the pics. There are numberous breaks in the beadwork with a few beads missing. Look closely at the pics. Buckle appears to be brass showing a rich dark patina that only age can accomplish. There are a few letters on the back of buckle but they are not legible. The leather appears to be in very good condition, again exhibiting a rich natural dark patina. All thread used in the construction of this belt appears to be cotton, in my judgement. The item was purchased by my husband in the late 1980's from an auction house parking lot in Ohio and so noted in his own hand with tag that accompanies this piece. A wonderful piece of Americana measuring approx. 32 1/2"OAL!
