Description: Attractive glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate. Mint frost shows in the protected areas and this cent offers excellent eye appeal. Just a few light contact marks from choice. There is a thin vertical nick high on the neck, a few ticks on the cheek, and some more in the field off the end of the nose. E-MDS, die state b. Struck on a planchet that did not have the rims upset, and the strike occurred partially outside the collar. As a result the rims are quite wide, the diameter is significantly larger than normal, and there is a partial "Railroad Rim" on the obverse side of the edge. Because the rims of the planchet had not been upset, the diameter of the unstruck planchet was larger than normal. The result was that the planchet didn't fit into the coining chamber and was struck while partially outside the collar. A very rare type of mint error for a large cent.
