Jean Parisot de Valette Fra' Jean Parisot de Valette[a], (4 February 1495[?], Parisot, Rouergue – 21 August 1568, Malta) was a French nobleman and 49th Grand Master of the Order of Malta, from 21 August 1557 to his death in 1568. As a Knight Hospitaller, joining the order in the Langue de Provence, he fought with distinction against the Turks at Rhodes. St. John's Co-Cathedral St. Johns Co-Cathedral (Maltese: Kon-Katidral ta’ San Gwann), located in Valletta, Malta, was built by the Knights of Malta between 1573 and 1578, having been commissioned in 1572 by Grand Master Jean de la Cassiere as the conventual church of the Order of the Knights Hospitaller of St John, known as the Knights of Malta. The Church was designed by the Maltese military architect Glormu Cassar (Girolamo Cassar) who designed several of the more prominent buildings in Valletta, with interior decoration by Mattia Preti. The church is considered to be one of the finest examples of high Baroque architecture in Europe and one of the world's great cathedrals..
