Issue points as stated by John C. Eckel in his 1913 publication 'The First Editions of the Writings of Charles Dickens'.Retaining the original half title, and with the errata leaf to the rear. Illustrated with an engraved title page and and twenty-eight further plates. Collated, lacking the frontispiece and ten plates. Illustrated by Hablot Knight Browne, most often known by his pen name 'Phiz'. As Phiz, he illustrated many of Dickens' novels, including 'David Copperfield', 'Dombey and Son', and 'Bleak House', as well as illustrating for 'Punch' throughout his life.‘Martin Chuzzlewit’ is about the eponymous Martin, who goes against his grandfather’s wishes and falls in love with an orphaned girl, intending to marry her. As a result, Martin is disinherited. CONDITION In a half calf binding, with cloth covered boards. Significant rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints, with further rubbing to back strip at spine label. Lacking perimeters of spine label. Fading to perimeters of rear board. Front hinge strained and a touch tender, and partially repaired with tape. Rear hinge strained, and firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with the odd spot and handling mark. Significant spotting and instances of foxing to plates, most concentrated to perimeters. Tape reinforcement to gutter between page 234 and the plate that faces it. Lacking the engraved frontispiece.
