Only the rightmost part of the 4 in the date can be seen with a good eye, however, the small letters reverse on braided hair large cents was only used between 1839-1843, so simply knowing the date ends in 3 allows us to be certain the date is 1843. It has been holed twice at some point, was cleaned at some point and is starting to tone and has several contact marks.
