Sir James Pennethorne (4 June 1801 – 1 September 1871) was a British architect and planner, particularly associated with buildings and parks in central London. John Roffe (1769 London, England – 14 December 1850 Upper Holloway, Middlesex, England) was a noted architectural engraver PROVENANCE: Published in 'Illustrations of the Public Buildings of London: With Historical and Descriptive Accounts' by Augustus Pugin, John Britton. Published in 1838 by John Weale, Architectural Library High Holborn London. This work, in two volumes, is by the antiquary John Britton FSA, 1771-1857 (of Burton Street) and the architect Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, 1812-52 (of Great Russell Street).TYPE: Antique steel plate engraving printed on paper. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: St Marylebone Parish Church is an Anglican church on the Marylebone Road in London. St Mary Le Bone was built in 1740, Nelson worshipped here and Sir William Hamilton married Emma Hamilton there. This church survived as a great relic of the past until 1949 when it was demolished.
