Description: NEW YORK MANSUCRIPTVAN BRUGH LIVINGSTONLivingston's LandingDobb's Ferrry1836 Lengthy historic land deed, paper opens up, printed and manuscript/handwritten. "...Between Vanbrugh Livingston of New York and Harriet E his wife of the first part and John Hurrle(?) of the said city...that certain piece of land in the village of Livingstone's Landing town of Greenburgh County of Westchester and State of New York and described as lot number seventy eight on High Street...." Livingston (1792 - 1868) was a diplomat from the historical Livingston family, named after his grandfather Peter Van Brugh Livington - a delegate to the New York Provincial Congress and NY State Treasurer. One of Van Brugh's uncles was Philip Livingston who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and another uncle was William Livingston, signer or the Constitution and first governor of New Jersey. Livingston's Landing was Dobb's Ferry and Philip Livingston and his son Peter owned about half of what we call Dobbs Ferry today. Philip bought 233 acres for 3,262 pounds and expanded it to 610 acres in 1796. In 1830 Peter had the land laid out into plots and called it the Village of Livingston Landing in the Town of Greenburg and it seems in 1836 Van Brugh Livingston is selling a plot which makes sense as he did not have the moneymaking touch as it seems, name and all, he went bankrupt. Van Brugh Livingston went to Columbia College in 1811 as did so many noted New Yorkers and Livingstons. ******We ship with safety in mind. Thank you.
