Scarce title in the original publisher’s cloth binding, only 7 copies registered in National and International libraries. Complete with 8 plates and the frontispiece, 7 of which are hand coloured. Condition Report Externally Spine – fair condition – gilt titles with gilt decoration, worn top and tail with loss, colour has faded.Joints – poor to fair condition – rubbed and worn with two small tears in the cloth down the rear joint and a tear about an inch up from the bottom, both joints are broken. Corners – good condition – bumped and worn.Boards – good condition – covered in pink watered cloth, faded around the edges.Page edges – good condition – top edge darkened, all marbled.See above and photos. Internally Hinges – poor condition – both hinges are loose, the front hinge is cracked with the webbing visible and the rear hinge is also starting to crack.Paste downs – good condition – plain, some minor foxing.End papers – good condition – plain, some minor foxing.Title – good condition – previous owner’s signature along the top edge, lightly tanned and foxed.Pages – good condition – tissue guarded b/w frontispiece, numerous tissue guarded plates throughout depicting the study of nature, tanned and foxed throughout, marks to various pages, engravings bright and clean.Binding – fair condition – worn with binding loose.
