However, his best-known works are the lion sculptures at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, 1802-1873).A superb album of approx. 77 proofs of mainly small engravings in various states after works by Edwin Landseer, c1830s-40s.Large leather bound album with gilt lettering on upper cover 'Etchings & small plates after Sir Edwin Landseer'. Marbled endpapers, inner gilt dentelles. Contains approx. 77 engravings laid to rectos of card leaves (versos left blank). Mainly one to a page, though a handful of pages with proofs laid side by side. Many proofs are before lettering, but those that are dated were made in the period between the 1830s and the 1840s. They appear to have bound up in the 1860s by a collector. Size: folio - 44.5cm x 32cm.Good condition. Front board and spine, and marbled endpapers, detached but present. Foxing to most sheets, mainly in the wide margins of the album leaves, but sometimes also in the engraved area. Most of the proofs are free or almost free of foxing within the plate marks. Two engravings in particular are heavily foxed.
