Original large mezzotint engraving. On thick wove paper. Engraved by William Say after a painting by Beechey. Lettering below the image area, with caption, engraver, painter and publishing details: 'London, Published March, 22nd,, 1819 by the Engraver. 92, Norton Street, Fitzroy Square.' Size: whole sheet - 56.2cm x 40.5cm / image area (exc. lettering and any margins)- 46.3cm x 34.7cm. Must be sent flat-packed, hence the shipping cost. Very Good to Good condition. A few small closed tears to margins. Small stain to top margin but stops just before image area. Some creasing. Minor dust and handling marks to margins. The three quarter length portrait shows the prince with short hair, wearing a uniform, with a Garter star on left breast, a sash over left shoulder and gloves held in his left hand. There is a plumed helmet and sword on the table to the left. Prince William Frederick, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh (1776-1834) was a great-grandson of King George II and nephew and son-in-law of King George III.
