The Quarterly Review was a literary and political periodical founded in march 1809 by London publishing house John Murry. It ceased publication in 1967. Initially, the Quarterly was set up primarily to counter the influence on public opinion of the "Edinburgh Review". Early contributors included Secretaries of the Admiralty John Wilson Croker and Sir John Barrow, Poet Laureate Robert Southey, poet-novelist Sir Walter Scott, and others. The periodical published reviews of new works, which were often highly politicized and on occasion dismissive. Half bound tan leather on marbled hardboards. Minor wear to the boards with some scuffing. Four raised bands, burgundy title and number blocks with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine. Bookplate of Edward Parker of Browsholme in the County of York on the front endpaper. Evidence of bookworm damage to last few pages of the Index. Minor marks, browning, and light foxing on some pages. All pages are firm and the book is in very good condition. 582 pages, plus publisher's catalogue 2 pages. 22 x 13.5 cm.We have over 2000 items in our Ebay shop on a range of subjects, so please feel free to have a browse and see if anything else takes your fancy.
