Description: Pretty two volume set of Vertot’s history of the Roman Revolutions given as “Prix d’Excellence” to Octavo Ducros in 1829. Originally published in 1719, this is marked “Nouvelle Edition” and dated 1812. Has scrapes to the leather bindings where material is missing (see Photos); more like scrapes to volume one front near the spine and a spot on the rear: scraped and missing to the underlying board on back of volume two. Gilt embossed diamond design around the edges front and back. Pretty decorated spines wtih gilt embossed “bows” separated by lines and scallops as well as red labels near the head with gilt-lettered titles and black labels below with gilt volume numbers. Black and blue marbled endpapers with some yellow match the marbled edges. Good Condition: 12mo (7” x 4 1/4”): black and blue marbled endpapers: bookplate inside front of Volume One: minor foxing near front of volume one and toning to paper in both volumes: red ribbon bookmarks intact but faded and discolored where outside of books, still light red inside: scuffed corners missing some materials on both volumes :scraped and lost material on the back turndown in Volume two at bottom corner:cracked gutters: “Histoire des Revolutions Arrivees dans le Gouvernement de la Republique Romaine”:Nouvelle edition:par M.
