Gregory, and miscellaneous poems. An uncommon work. Complete in three volumes. Thomas Chatterton was an eighteenth century English poet. His works were written when he was very young, and he died when he was just seventeen. His work and life had a great influence on Romantic artists such as Shelley and Keats. His death inspired art and literature such as a play by Alfred de Vigny and the oil painting 'The Death of Chatterton' by Henry Wallis.Illustrated with engravings. Volume I has a monochrome plate as the frontispiece, Volume II has a frontispiece and two monochrome plates, and Volume III has a frontispiece and two monochrome plates, one of which is a folding plate depicting Bristol Castle. Collated, complete.Prior owner's ink inscription from 1943 to the first pastedown of Volume I. CONDITION In full calf bindings. Externally, sound. There is rubbing to the heads and tails of the spines and to the extremities, resulting in some slight loss to the leather. There is loss to half of the title label of Volume III. The front hinge of Volume III is starting but firm. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1943 to the first pastedown of Volume I. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are generally bright and clean with just some occasional spots.
