Description: 1797 George III - Cartwheel Twopence 2d - very good condition (for its age) with sharp features and full lustre. There is a ding at 10 o'clock on the reverse. Some surface marks. Britain's largest ever circulating coin, the Cartwheel Twopence was produced in 1797 on one of the first ever steam powered presses at Matthew Boulton's private Birmingham mint. These large coins were produced between years 1797-1799, but all were minted with the year 1797. Minting stopped after 1799 due to the rise in copper prices.
