Published by A Millar, London in 1753. This fourth volume covers 1703-1713. Printed notes in the margins.Burnet began Bishop Burnet's History of His Own Time in 1683, covering the English Civil War and the Commonwealth of England to the Treaty of Utrecht of 1713. The work gives a sketch of the history of the Civil Wars and Commonwealth, and a detailed account of the immediately succeeding period down to 1713. While not free from egotism and some party feeling, it is written with a sincere desire for accuracy and fairness, and it has largely the authority of an eyewitness. The style, if somewhat lacking in dignity, is lively and picturesque.Full brown leather hardboards with a rebacked spine in brown cloth. Part of the original spine leather is attached over the top. Gilt title lettering and the number 4 for the volume are stamped on the original part. Leather is very worn and has lost its sheen. Boards firm. Bookplate to the front endpaper for the Clerical Lending Library of Dolgelley, Merioneth, dated 1841 and there is a library sticker with rules of lending to the rear endpaper. Spotting to the page edges, pages themselves clean and firm.
