Aaron Hill was an English dramatist who was a perfectionist when it came to his writings. Some believed that his polished nature lead to a lack in spontaneity with his dramatic works. He famously had some controversy with Alexander Pope after he wrote several satiric lines on him. This then meant that Hill was referenced in Pope's 'Dunciad' which fuelled the controversy. Hill managed the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane when he was 24 years old. Whilst doing so he staged the premier of George Frideric Handel's 'Rinaldo'. This was the first Italian opera designed for a London audience. These essays contain critical views on a variety of literature, art and society. CONDITION Rebound, in full cloth bindings.
