Description: Normal 0 false false false RU X-NONE X-NONE Soviet Truck (Cold War) ZIL-157Truck ZIL-157 Truck ZIL-157 The first work on the BM-24 self-propelled missile launcher probably began shortly after the end of World War II, and in 1947 the set was adopted by the Soviet Army. Serial production started at the Automobile Plant No. 2 in Moscow. The BM-24 set had a launcher with 12 M-24 or UD or MS-24 missiles with a 240 mm caliber. The launcher was mounted on three different chassis: ZIS-151, ZIL-157 trucks and the AT-S tractor. The first prototypes of the BM-14 self-propelled missile launcher were created in the early 1950s. In 1952, the set was adopted by the Soviet Army. Serial production started in the same year. The set remained in the line until around 1990. The BM-14 set was created as a successor to the legendary BM-13 "Katyusha" launcher. A new launcher with a caliber of 140 mm (compared to 132 mm in the BM-13), with 16 missiles in combat position, was mounted on the chassis of a ZIL-151 or GAZ-63 truck.
