Description: Offered here is a Charles I silver shilling with triangle mint mark making it issued 1639-40. An amazing error in that it was struck at least twice. The portrait is a bit fuzzy because of the double strike. Looks better in the hand. My scans came out a bit dark. The coin is just as it should be with original silver color. Could have been used in early Colonial America. A nice coin for a Colonial type set. See the scans. U.S. shipping $5 insured. PayPal, or check I was not sure about the grade of this coin so I ran it by an expert in early British coins and this is his opinion which is about gospel in my opinion"The planchet cracked as it was being struck and buckled presenting the raised surface along the line of the crack. This has raised the portrait which would have worn very rapidly; the lower section inside the bed has remained protected as the shield which is re-struck and rotated by about 30 degrees. The novelty of such a coin would not have gone unnoticed to the public of the day, and I think it would have quickly been preserved once the civil war started. I think it is circulated but for a limited time, it is a full strike not clipped I think the ragged edge is due to the inferior quality of the planchet. The silver would have been squashed at that point.Historically it is an excellent novelty and I would sell it on that basis.-----" end quote. my note. if a united states coin it would be an amazing error.
